COSTA BLANCA - ALMORADI

The town of Almoradi is located on the northern side of the Segura River, on the southern Costa Blanca, & is approximately 25 minutes drive from the coastal towns of Torrevieja & Guardamar. With a population of 13,000 this is a well established community, & as a result there are a good selection of shops, restaurants & other facilities in place; in addition to government managed amenities such as schools, doctors etc.

In recent times there has been increased interest in the town. This has mainly come from residential tourists who are attracted by the relatively low prices (for the region), or ex-pats looking for a taste of real Spain. It has to be said Almoradi does offer something a little different from that of many of coastal towns; it is quieter, & has retained much of its inherent culture & tradition. This is demonstrated in the example of the water tribunal. The tribunal is a historical institution held in the town every year, & is tasked with settling disputes over irrigation; fines are still doled out in Vellon Reals (old Spanish coins).
Sporting enthusiasts are still well catered for here, with the town boasting a good municipal swimming pool & other facilities.

GOLF
Almoradi is no more than a 20-minute drive from a good selection of golf courses including those at Campoamor, Villamartin and Las Ramblas with La Finca & la Marquesa clubs significantly closer.

FESTIVALS
There are many fiestas (festivals) throughout Almoradi's calendar, some of which are a real spectacle & well worth a look. The Paella Festival during the summer months is well worth a look. The cuisine is another major bonus though made up of mainly traditional Spanish fare; although international tastes are also catered for.

MARKETS
Almoradi holds the largest open-air market in the area. The Market is held in the town square every Saturday.

CLIMATE
Almoradi is also well known for its mild climate & the entire region enjoys sunshine for in excess of 320 days per year. The sun is at its hottest during the summer months, with temperatures rarely falling below 30°C (86°F). Winters are typically very mild with averages hovering around 18°C (64°F).

GUARDAMAR DEL SEGURA BEACH
Guardamar del Sergura stands at the mouth of the river Segura and is surrounded by pine, palm and eucalyptus trees all of which were planted to prevent erosion of one of Spain's finest beaches.
Both the Guardamar and Pineda beaches are composed of the finest white sand and the smell of the pine trees which surrounds them makes for an unforgettable experience.
The beaches run for as far as the eye can see and are so large that even in peak season, there are days when they seem almost deserted.
Swept during the season on a daily plus basis, the Guardamar beach is possibly one of the best manicured in all Spain

WATER SPORTS IN THE AREA

PARAGLIDING
This is not one of those sports that you can just turn up and do, like tennis or lawn bowls. However, Andalucia provides some near-perfect terrain for those who have mastered the basics and for beginners wishing to learn more. Paragliding is very similar to hang-gliding, except that, in the latter, the pilot hangs beneath a parachute in the sitting position and flies with the wind, whereas hang-gliders fly in a horizontal position beneath a framed wing.

A gentle slope is ideal for the first-footer and there are plenty more challenging launch sites scattered throughout the province.

It is also eminently possible to practice 'parapente', which is essentially motorized paragliding. The forward propulsion unit and propeller, or motor, as we call it, is fixed on the back of the intrepid pilot who, from his sitting position beneath the parachute, is able to maneuver at will.

BOAT TRIPS
Boat trips of all sorts can be arranged from the resorts. The choice of boats is quite extensive, ranging from an all-day cruise aboard a 350ft (107m) liner, to smaller cruisers, yachts, catamarans and glass bottomed boats where visitors can take in the marine life below. In addition to cruising around the coast many boats drop anchor and offer swimming, snorkelling and banana boat rides.

SCUBA DIVING

Why not explore the underwater world on a guided dive or learn how to dive during your holiday. Escorts to recommended dive sites are available to qualified divers as well as novices wishing to experience the underwater delights.
Available in the numerous seaside resorts in the area.
